National Curriculum 2014 onwards – Information for Parents/Carers
There is a new National Curriculum from September 2014 and the existing system of assessment levels has been removed and not replaced by the Government.
This change will affect all children from Y1 to Y6 from September 2014.
The Government has left it up to schools to design their own assessment framework based around the National Curriculum. St Cuthbert’s is using materials developed in Sheffield using Steps instead of levels to assess children. It provides a rigorous and comprehensive approach to the planning and assessment of the new National Curriculum.
From now on, all children from Y1 to Y6 will be assessed using Steps which describe their attainment as Developing/Secure/Extending against the National Curriculum statements for each year group. Children working at Secure within each year group are working at age-related and typical expectations for their chronological age.
