Our Diocese

The Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle
We are proud to be part of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and often go and visit our beautiful cathedral, St Mary's. St Cuthbert's is closely linked to many other local parishes such as Sacred Heart and St Michael's, with whom we share good practice throughout the year. We celebrate many sporting successes and participate in competitions with other local schools such as St Oswald's, St Charles's and English Martyrs on a regular basis.
We enjoy a positive working relationship with the high schools of Sacred Heart, St Cuthbert's and St Mary's, and many of our children go on to further their education at these brilliant schools.
We are lucky that our Diocese is passionate about providing opportunities for spiritual growth for its members. Every year, we visit the cathedral and take part in Mass for The Good Shepherd Fund, which celebrates the work of St Cuthbert's Care. We are also lucky enough to have the fantastic Youth Ministry Team and enjoy various celebrations led by them throughout the year.
Members of the choir were honoured to be asked to sing for the YMT service held at the Cathedral recently. One head teacher said the 24 of us sang louder than everyone in his whole school put together! Ms Fas and Mrs Fisher were incredibly proud of the children, who represented the school brilliantly.
Bishop Seamus & Bishop Robert Byrne
It has been announced that Bishop Seamus will be retiring from his current post, and Bishop Robert Byrne will be installed at St. Mary's Cathedral on 25th March 2019.
We would like to thank Bishop Seamus for everything he has done for our diocese. We have fond memories of him visiting our school and we especially enjoyed him letting us try on his mitre!
Congratulations to Bishop Robert Byrne; we can't wait to meet you!
Year of...
Over the past three years, we have been participating in the following diocesan initiatives:
- Year of Mercy
- Year of Oscar Romero
- Year of Mary
We have thoroughly enjoyed deepening our faith through these initiatives, and our school has benefited from the additions of new artworks inspired by these.
