Year 1 have had a wonderful Holy Week preparing for Easter by making Easter Cards, Bonnets and taking part in whole school liturgies. The bonnet parade was EGGCELENT with the children modelling their super creations while performing a dance to 'Spring Chicken'. Thank you to all of our families who supported in school and at home. We hope you have a CRACKING Easter!
Wow! What an amazing trip to Newburn Activity Center! We had the opportunity to experience climbing on an indoor climbing wall, archery and team games as well a stop off at the soft play area. Everybody tried their best and worked as a team encouraging and supporting each other. The coaches were very impressed with the determination and resilience demonstrated by our class. Well done Year 1!
As part of their topic on Grace Darling Year 1 had a wonderful visit to a lighthouse. They went to St Mary's Lighthouse on St Mary's Island where they learned about what the life of a lighthouse keeper used to be like and climbed right to the top for a tour; 40m high and 137 steps! Our guide Adam then took us out onto the beach to create some sand art. They even spotted some seals on the rocks! A truly fantastic day!
A super 'Teddy Bear BBQ and Boats' afternoon to celebrate achieving a full class cube jar! Well done Year 1. After testing different materials to see if they float or sink we made some model boats using recycled materials. Then we tested them to see if they would float in our paddling pool. We also made some healthy vegetable kebabs and enjoyed our BBQ meal together with our teddies.
In Design and Technology we explored how to make our model lighthouses stiffer, stronger and more stable. After creating our lighthouses we tested their strength using Mrs Hickey's upside down test! We then decorated them using our geography knowledge of coastal areas.
Year 1 had a fantastic Full Cube Jar celebration! They made their own healthy vegetable kebabs to enjoy at our Teddy Bears BBQ and then tested their boats to see if they would float. There was mixed results but it gave us lots to talk about around the properties of the materials they chose to build with!
Well done Year 1 for all your hard work and kind actions to earn this celebration!
Year 1 were using drama to show their understanding of Pentecost. In groups they created freeze frames of how the disciples felt when Jesus said he was leaving them and going back to his father.
Year 1 have had a busy week learning to tell the time to the hour and half past along with ordering the days of the week and months of the year. Can you guess what times they were making on their human clock?
Year 1 had a fantastic circuit training Funs session inspired by our visit from Olympic Athlete David Guest. They worked hard at each station, shouted encouragement to each other and felt great afterwards. Brilliant job Year 1!
Year 1 have enjoyed learning about the seaside and what it was like in Victorian times. They have created some wonderful, detailed drawings of Punch and Judy in preparation for their own puppet making next week. Well done Year 1!
Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon making their Punch and Judy inspired puppets! They thought carefully about what tools and equipment they were going to use to join their different materials. Well done Year 1, they look brilliant!
