Friday 15th October

RE: Topic- Welcome
Talk with your child about how you were welcomed into school on the first day back after the holidays.  How do we welcome people into our classroom e.g. smile, talk to them, show them where things go, share things with them etc.

Make a 'Welcome' poster.  An example is shown below.  Copy the word 'Welcome' in colourful letters and try and write it in a different language.  Decorate your poster with smiley faces, children sharing etc.

Phonics

Write the words less, hiss, fuss, kiss, mess for your child to read.  Talk about the double 'ss' at the end of these words just making one sound.

Talk about words that describe the position of objects e.g. next to, inside, under, to the side of, on top of, in between.

Hide an object in the house e.g. a small toy.  Give your child a clue about where it is hidden using one of the prepositional words above e.g. it is under the chair or it is on top of the drawers etc. When your child has had a few turns of finding the object get them to hide the object and give you a clue about where it is.  Can they use words rather than pointing to where it is?
