Changes to Pick Up Arrangements
13th September 2020
Thank you again to each and every member of our school community for helping us to get St Cuthbert's up and running safely again for all of our children. Well done as always to our children - they continue to amaze us all - such resilience, enthusiasm, willingness to adapt to change and good humour in abundance. They are an absolute credit to our families and St Cuthbert's.
After a really great start to the school year and many successes to celebrate in the way in which we've reopened St Cuthbert's under COVID-19 restrictions and guidance, there are a few things we need to change in relation to collecting children at the end of the day where parents/carers are collecting more than one child because it just isn't working well enough for families. Now that we've had a trial run of everything, these are the small changes we're making but we think they'll make a big difference.
Any parent/carer collecting children from more than one Key Stage will be able to collect all of their children during the same time slot and using only one entrance/exit at school. If this applies to you, please continue to collect your youngest children first between 2.40 and 3.00pm from Nursery, Reception, Y1 and Y2 as you have been doing this week. If you have an older child in KS2, there is no need for you to come around to the gates on Stapeley View as we will bring your older children safely to you. If you are collecting children from more than one Early Years or KS1 Class, your older child from KS2 will be with your oldest Early Years or KS1 child. We will bring older children from Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 to safe collection points in Nursery, Reception and KS1. We have more than enough space inside to hold children safely observing all required social distancing in school until they are collected. This should work better for families who have had to enter and exit the school grounds at two different points.
If you are collecting children from Y3/Y4 and you have an older child in Y5/Y6 you will be able to collect your children during the same 2.40 - 3.00pm time slot and from the same Y3/Y4 door. This should help alleviate some of the crowding we have experienced on the Y5/Y6 yard. We will also be introducing a queueing system using cones for Y5 and Y6 parents/carers to help with social distancing and to ease collection of children.
Also, could I please suggest that if parents/carers do not wish to use the 'cut' between Balmain Road and Stapeley View because of social distancing rules, there is another option to get to the school and that is via Bromford Road and then onto Stapeley View.
Please be patient with us as we get this new approach up and running next week. Staff will be on hand to help direct so if you're not sure what to do, please ask.
The beginning and ending to the school day was always going to be a tricky one to manage - trying to get 230 children collected safely and adhering to all of the COVID-19 restrictions is a challenge but I'm sure we can continue to work together to help get this as right as we can for the children. We will trial this new approach next week and if this doesn't work we will have to look at this situation again.
If you have any individual concerns or queries will you please contact the school office to discuss and we will do our utmost best to help.
Thank you again for your continued patience, support and understanding - it is very much appreciated by everyone in school.
