Year 5 Weekly Homework
Spellings will be set and tested in line with the units from The Spelling Shed scheme. Spellings will be tested on a Tuesday. The spellings are available on the Spelling Shed web game: https://play.edshed.com .
This game is a great way for children to practise their weekly spellings. They also have the opportunity to play the game in school time.
Times tables will be tested each week (tests will cover all times tables up to 12 x 12 and the related division facts). These tests could happen on any day. All children also still have an active ‘Times Tables Rockstars’ account and we would encourage them to use the program at home to practise the recall of the times tables.
Reading books – the children have been asked to read their reading books for just 10 minutes a night. They will be given new books each week. It is important to your child’s learning that they are heard reading by an adult regularly too. This does not always need to be your child’s reading book – personal books can be included too. If children have finished their book, have a look at the reading ideas page for follow-up activities. Children are expected to write at least one comment in their reading record each week and these are handed in and checked every Tuesday.
Reading Plus - children are required to complete 5 reading assignments per week (3 in school and 2 at home). This will take approximately 2 30 minute sessions at home.
