Healthy School Plus

10th July 2017

Last year, our school was awarded the Healthy School Plus Award for all our work over the past 3 years to support physical activities, for children and families, through cycling and sport at St Cuthbert’s. To retain this award we have started a new project.

5 a Day

Our focus is healthy eating with an emphasis on encouraging children to eat more fruit and vegetables.

One of the activities already started is the KS2 Fruit Programme which supplies fruit and vegetables to schools, at an affordable cost. Each day, during morning break, fruit or vegetables are available for the children to buy at a cost of 20p.

This is a great way of keeping up energy levels in school which helps the children’s learning, as well as encouraging them to fulfil their “5 a day,” and will also help the school to retain the Healthy School Plus Award.

I hope you will continue to support our project and your child by purchasing from the fruit stall or  bringing in their own fruit/vegetables from home.

We also took part in the British Nutrition Foundation's "Healthy Eating Week," in June. The school kitchen produced delicious and colourful fruit kebabs, for lunchtime, the children thoroughly enjoyed them.

During a whole school assembly we promoted the benefits of eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day and the children were all given a food diary to complete at home.

After the Healthy Eating week we have seen a huge increase in the number of KS2 children purchasing from the fruit/veg stall and children bringing in their own fruit from home.

Thank you for your support.
